NEET PG 2024 Postponement Hearing LIVE: The Supreme Court of India is heard a petition to postpone the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG) admissions today, August 9. After hearing the appeal, the bench declined to consider the deferring of the exam, noting that the careers of 2 lakh students could not be jeopardised at the behest of a few petitioners. The NEET PG 2024 is slated to be held in two shifts on August 11, 2024. On August 8, advocate Anas Tanwir brought up the petition and requested Chief Justice DY Chandrachud to have an urgent hearing on the matter. The Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud, Justices J B Pardiwala, and Manoj Misra agreed to consider the postponement hearing. The petition claims that a large number of applicants have been offered exam locations in places that are very difficult for them to get to, especially considering the short timeframe. The allocation of these cities was only made public on July 31, with exact centres details to be published on August 8, giving candidates very little time to arrange for their travel and stay.
The original date of the NEET PG 2024 was July 23. But after reports of anomalies in the NEET UG test, which was administered earlier this year, the Union Health Ministry decided to postpone the NEET PG as a “precautionary measure.”
